Explorers I & II (Traditional Pre-K and Kindergarten) Teacher
Melissa holds a B.A. in Bible Exposition and Exegesis from Emmaus Bible College in Dubuque, Iowa. Melissa previously taught preschool in Dubuque before coming to Clapham in 2007 to serve as the aide in our Explorers program. In addition, she has served in various children’s ministries since moving to Wheaton in 2006. This is Melissa’s second year at Clapham School. Caroline Newkirk
Explorers I & II Teacher’s Aide and Latin Teacher
Caroline holds a B.A. in French and Spanish from the University of Central Florida. She most recently taught Latin and French at The Geneva School, a classical Christian school in Orlando, Florida. This is Caroline’s first year at Clapham School. Ethan Robins
Class One Teacher
Ethan has a degree from Wheaton College in Music, with a minor in English and Philosophy. His independent study at Wheaton was on Classical Christian Education. This is Ethan’s third year at Clapham School. Jennifer Bernthal
Class Two Teacher
Jennifer holds a B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of Illinois. She previously taught at Regents School of Austin, a classical Christian school in Austin, Texas, and at her alma mater, Rockford Christian School in Rockford, Illinois. This is Jennifer’s first year at Clapham School. Kim Sceggel
Class Three Teacher
Kim has a B.S. in Elementary Education from Gordon College. She also has a Master of Education from Covenant College. Kim has over 20 years of teaching experience in Christian schools. This is Kim’s second year at Clapham School. Shannon Ross
Class Four Teacher
Shannon has a B.A. in Social Science from Seattle Pacific University. She has worked in both public and private schools over the last ten years, most notably at Trinity School in Durham, North Carolina, which also uses a classical, Charlotte Mason model. This is Shannon’s second year at Clapham School. Melodie McKenzie
Classes Five & Six Teacher
Melodie has a B.A. in Bible and Elementary Education from Appalachian Bible College. Most recently, Melodie was Principal at Oak Park Christian Academy, and she previously taught at Covenant Christian Academy, a classical school in Chicago. She has 10 years of teaching experience and a love for the classical approach to education. This is Melodie’s first year at Clapham School. Sara Smith
Music and Art Teacher
Sara holds a B.A. in Music Education from Wheaton College. She attended Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan for high school. Sara brings to Clapham an extraordinary background in music and art! This is Sara’s first year at Clapham. John Bremner
Physical Education Instructor
John has a Bachelor’s in Finance from Western Illinois University. John is a tennis professional that has been working with children for over 15 years. This is John’s third year at Clapham. Laura Mueller
Assistant Physical Education Instructor
Laura has a B.A. in Biblical and Theological Studies from Wheaton College, and a B.S. in Nursing from Loma Linda University. She has twelve years of experience as an R.N. in intensive care and surgical services. For the past several years, Laura has been involved with Upward Basketball through her church. This is Laura’s second year at Clapham. Mark Brucato
Chaplain
Mark has a B.A. in Bible Theology from Moody Bible Institute, and a M.A. in Biblical Exegesis from Wheaton College. He also studied at the International Christian College in Glasgow, Scotland. Mark is a high school graduate of the Black Forest Academy in Kandern, Germany. In elementary and junior high, Mark attended an Italian public school which was based on Latin classical education. Mark is currently a Ministry Resident at College Church, and he and his wife are preparing for missionary work overseas. Mark leads the weekly chapels at Clapham and has helped develop the school’s Bible curriculum. This is Mark’s second year at Clapham. Susan Carrion
School Administrator
Susan has over 20 years of experience working in various Christian schools. Most recently she served as Principal of Ambleside School of Ocala, Florida and as Principal of Pontiac Christian School in Pontiac, Illinois. Susan is onsite at the school full time and is responsible for the onsite administrative support at Clapham School. In addition, Susan will advise our Explorers and Class One teachers. She holds a B.A. in Music from Judson College and also studied at Moody Bible Institute. Carolyn Litfin
Director of Admissions & Marketing
Carolyn is responsible for various administrative duties at Clapham School, including admissions and marketing. She is onsite at the school part time each weekday. Carolyn has a B.S. in Education from the University of Tennessee and has previously worked as a legal assistant. Doug Reynolds
Head of School
Doug has overall administrative and management responsibility for the school and is onsite at the school part time during the year. Doug most recently worked as a Vice President at ServiceMaster and has over 20 years of business experience in the U.S. and Europe. He has a B.A. from the University of Virginia and an M.B.A. from Northwestern. Doug serves on the Board of Directors for IFES, a global university ministry based in Oxford, UK. |
